Chinese Zodiac Ox: A born leader, you inspire confidence from all around you. You are conservative, methodical and good with your hands. Guard against being chauvinistic and always demanding your own way. The Ox would be successful as a skilled surgeon, general, or hairdresser. (Found on just about any Chinese restaurant place mat.)

The Ox

Mine is the stabilizing force
that perpetuates the cycle of life.
I stand immobile against the
test of adversity,
resolute and unimpeachable.
I seek to serve integrity,
to bear the burdens of righteousness.
I abide by the laws of nature
patiently pushing the wheel of Fate.
Thus, I shall weave my destiny.

I AM THE OX.

About the Chinese Zodiac Ox

The Ox is incredibly dependable. Even with all of his other traits, dependability, stability and reliability are what he’s really all about. Everything Ox does, he does at a steady, methodical pace. Although, he his highly intelligent, and when given facts and legitimate reasoning, he will definitely give the important issues another look.

Ox is a very strict and rigid taskmaster. He expects a lot out of others, but it’s no more than he expects from himself. Once he has given a directive, others are expected to promptly and efficiently carry it out. He expects everyone to pull his or her own weight, and will not stand for any sort of disobedience, or rebellion. Sometimes he has a tenancy to be a little too strict, or rigid in his ways. Relaxing his strict rules will make his road through life a little less stressful.

Because of his willingness to work hard, he has to be careful of becoming completely buried in, and controlled by, his work. When something goes wrong, or not his way, Ox tends to throw himself completely into his work. When dealing with any sort of crisis, defeat or failure, his response is to just work harder, longer and with more determination. Depending on the severity of a personal disappointment or hurt, he could cut himself off from the rest of the world and lose himself completely in his work. By doing this, he could doom himself to a life of solitude and loneliness.

You will probably never find an Ox in a casino or playing the risky stock market. Gambling and high stakes games are just not for him. He won’t take risks, preferring hard and endless work to any get-rich-quick scheme. Predictable, long-term investments and financial stability are the name of his game. Some may see this as a lack of imagination, or dreams, but Ox’s dreams are all surrounded by solid and dependable security and stability.

Ox has an excellent memory, and never forgets any little detail. This is both a good and bad thing. He will never forget to pay the bills when they are due, an important date, or even the milk from the store, but if you do him wrong, he won’t forget that either. He is overly sensitive when it comes to his pride, and any insult or injustice to it will be remembered for a long time. Ox tends to hold his grudges for a long, long time. Learning to forgive and then forget would be highly beneficial to him.

When you push an Ox past the limit of his infinite patience, watch out! He can quickly become the raging buffalo snorting and charging across the plains, seeing nothing but red. Although it may take a while to really heat him up, once he's hot, it will take him twice as long to cool off. Ox will usually suffer his anger in silence, but if he really gets worked up, it’s best to just get out of his way. He will be completely unreasonable and attack anyone or anything in his presence, whether justly or not. There will be no calming him down until he has blown off enough steam to calm himself.

As with any other trait in Ox’s character, love is no different. He is just as steadfast and methodical about love as he is with everything else. It will take him a long time to gain any sort of real emotional attachment to anyone, but once he does, he’s theirs for life. He’s firm and strict with his family, expecting a lot from them, but he is fiercely loyal and proud of them. He may not give you hollow praise or flowery words, but when he says he’s proud of you, or that he loves you, you know he really means it. Ox really does always mean what he says.

Ox is a natural born leader full of integrity. He is honest and loyal and will work harder than most all his life. He demands a lot from other people, but will reward them accordingly. He has a quiet dignity that doesn’t allow for shortcuts or taking advantage of anyone. His actions will always speak louder than his words. All of his successes will come through systematically and tirelessly working his way to the top.
